Cheerleading is a new and upcoming sport in the UK. Cheerleading consists of stunts, jumps, dance and tumbling as well as being great for those who love to perform. For those who are less comfortable performing in front of a crowd, becoming part of our Cheerleading team has improved confidence in our athletes both on and off the competition mat.
Carnegie Cheerleading has a nationwide reputation in university Cheerleading for being the team to watch for routines in our divisions. This comes from our close link to the All-Star programme Aviators Cheer, who compete at the Cheerleading World Championships in Florida each year.
Carnegie Cheerleading will encourage you to push yourself to achieve the most you can in the sport and allow you to learn, develop and perfect new skills. Alongside the training and competition element of cheerleading, you will be involved in one of the biggest social sports at the university. This means you can be involved in fun socials, tour and making friendships that will last a lifetime.
We can’t wait to meet you at Freshers’ Fair (Wednesday 25th September, Headingley Campus), where this years committee and members of our team are keen to answer any of your questions and provide any information you require about taster sessions and team trials. All athletes are required to attend trails in order for our coaches to make team assignments that suit each athlete best.
Each successful athlete will need to purchase their own competition kit and shoes. An optional training kit will also be available for an extra cost.
Carnegie Cheerleading are 5 times National Champions. We are the third-largest club at the university, meaning we provide our athletes with many social opportunities which lead to strong friendships being built throughout your years on the team.
You do not need any previous experience to be part of Carnegie Cheerleading. We encourage anybody who would like the opportunity to build friendships and who has the desire to learn new skills to come to our taster session and consider joining our team.
Carnegie have two teams which train Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays at level up academy. Level up holds a full sprung floor, tumbling tracks and pits.
Leeds Beckett Match Team Cheerleaders perform at AU club fixtures throughout the year including Varsity in front of 15,000 people. They train twice weekly, getting involved in all sorts of other events socially.
Why should I join?
Match Team is all about fun, we are a close knit group with friendship and inclusivity at our core, welcoming anyone and everyone, with no prior experience needed, we just want to have fun and we want everyone to be a part of that.
What equipment will I need?
No equipment needed until a place on the team is secured then you will need to purchase your own performance kit.
Taster sessions will run:
