Leeds Beckett’s Golf club is made up of two highly competitive squads and a social golf following. We are one of the few mixed gender teams at the University and aim to be as welcoming and inclusive as possible. Our members regularly get together off the golf course for socials and events, with a variety of venues and themes that always prove to be highlights of the year.

The first team are currently competing in Northern 1A of the British Universities and Colleges Sports (BUCS) leagues against other high quality university golf clubs from across England and Scotland. The second team competes in Northern 2B.

Everything you need to know

Squads get to travel to a variety of top golf courses across the country for fixtures and we get fantastic value from our Athletic Union membership. Included in this, you will get regular access to PGA Professional Coaches at Horsforth Golf Club. We get to work with the coaches for an hour and a half every Sunday until Easter, and one-to-one sessions can be arranged at no extra cost.

Our club also gets together at least at least once a week for a friendly game and to get some practice in, giving opportunities to stake a claim for team selection the following week and keeping the guys and girls who haven’t made the squads the chance to stay involved.

What equipment will I need?

All members are required to provide their own clubs for training and matches. Players must also wear appropriate golfing attire when on the course.

We have been supporting students to reach their potential through the scheme since 2002. Famous alumni that have benefitted from the scheme include Lucy Bronze, Alistair Brownlee, Alex Yee, Emily Scarratt, Vicky Fleetwood, Laura Weightman and Tom Bosworth.

Leeds Beckett awards a number of sports scholarships to high performing athletes each year who are committed to upholding the values of the university and willing to represent Leeds Beckett in BUCS events. Scholarships are also awarded to those who demonstrate the ability to progress and achieve high levels of success in their chosen sports.

Leeds Beckett University adopts the UK Anti-Doping and World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) position that cheating, including doping, is fundamentally contrary to the spirit of sport, undermining the otherwise positive impact it can have on society.
