Varsity 2018 - Upcoming Events

American Football

On Saturday 21st April Carnegie American Football will take on their city rivals the Gryphons for Varsity glory at West Park RUFC. Carnegie have been dominant in recent years, defeating the Uni side 39-0 in 2017 and they will want to carry on their impeccable run of form into 2018. The event will also raise awareness and funds for 2 important charities CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) and State of Mind.

Doors open from 11.30am with Carnegie American Football Academy playing a warm-up fixture before the big event kicks off at 2pm. Half-time entertainment will be provided by dance and cheer teams from the two universities. The event is free to attend and there is parking and refreshments available to purchase on site.

T20 Cricket Varsity

On Friday 4th May Leeds Beckett and University of Leeds men's cricket team will go head to head once again in memory of the late Beckett student Tommy Hardman. Tommy was in his final year reading Sports and Exercise at Leeds Beckett University, when on the 28th November 2012 he tragically passed away in his sleep, 5 days before his  22nd birthday. Whilst at university he was selected to play for Leeds Bradford MCCU team and played against a number of county teams – Surrey, Yorkshire and Sussex. The event will raise funds and awareness for Tommy's charity CRY (Cardiax Risk in the Young). Last year Beckett snatched victory in a thrilling contest and 2018's fixture promises to be just as close. The match will start at 3.30pm and will be played at Weetwood Sports Park. Entry is free and refreshments will be available to purchase throughout the day.
