Bernadette an Alumni of the UKCEM at Leeds Beckett University served the Head of State of Saint Lucia for over ten years as Aide and Head of Department at the Office of the Governor General in St. Lucia.

Her tenure in office included the organisation of state visits of high profile visitors, from Royalty to heads of State, banquets, galas, parades, National and Queens Awards Ceremonies, and also served as the Protocol advisor and trainer for Saint Lucia for the 2007 Cricket World Cup. As Aide De Camp ( ADC) to the Head of State she also travelled extensively internationally and advised on Protocol for events at International, state, civic and private level.

Currently the Course leader on the Event Management Undergraduate degree program Bernadette has been part of the course management team first as a level leader for the third year of the degree program for over 7 years supporting the team with course delivery, pastoral care of students and ensuring quality delivery of the course.

She is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, where the focus of her work continues to be curriculum development for Events Degree Programs, Continuing Professional development for Events management professionals, student experience and retention and pastoral care of students.

Current Teaching

Bernadette has developed and delivered modules on Event Security and VIP protection, Event Organisation Management, VIP Protocol and Managing VIP’s at Events and Celebration Ritual and Culture which focus’ on Understanding major cultural implications of events, and ensuring that cultural protocol and understanding become a key feature of the event management process. Also Lectures on Event Law modules throughout the degree program, and the Professional Event Solutions module.

Bernadette is also involved in offshore curriculum development and delivery for several CPD programs which are delivered for both Industry Associations and International Institutions.

Research Interests

Bernadette is Currently Pursuing a Ed.D on The Effects of Racial Identity on multi-racial students in Higher Education, and has recently co-authored book chapter on “ Rave Culture, Free party or Protest”. which focused on Health and safety in liminal spaces.
