Dr Abdullah Faruq
Abdullah's academic and professional expertise lies in the area of sport marketing and management. He started his career in 2003 as the first ever Commercial Executive of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). During his tenure with BCB, Abdullah brought in several long-term sponsor partners for BCB to support the development of cricket from grass-root to the senior level. Besides securing long-term sponsor partners, Abdullah also negotiated several successful sponsor bids for international home cricket tours hosted by Bangladesh.
In 2005, Abdullah left BCB to pursue his post-graduate study in Bradford University School of Management. Using his already established link with BCB and their sponsors, Abdullah based his dissertation study in the area of Sport Marketing exploring the motives of BCB's sponsors to sponsor cricket in Bangladesh. Upon his return to Bangladesh in 2006, he was offered the position of Head of Commercial of BCB which he served till 2007 before entering the academia.
Abdullah's academic career started in 2007 as a Lecturer in Marketing for a leading private university in Bangladesh called American International University-Bangladesh, where he taught different marketing module for undergraduate students. Based on his earlier experience in sport marketing arena Abdullah developed an undergraduate elective module titled 'Sport Marketing' the first of its kind in Bangladesh. Abdullah remained in the academic sector of Bangladesh till 2010, when he left for Middlesex University London to pursue his PhD study in Business and Management.
While pursuing his PhD study with Middlesex University London, Abdullah continued his teaching career as a Part-time academic member serving institutions namely Middlesex University London, University of Bradford and Southampton Solent University.
Abdullah finished his PhD study in 2015 and joined Leeds Beckett University as Senior Lecturer in Sport Marketing in the same year.

Abdullah's research interest includes studying the motives of sponsors to sponsor sport events and teams, scope of sport facilities to create additional revenue stream during off-season, sport branding and role of marketing communications in generating attendance in live sport events.
As Abdullah's PhD research was based in Social Enterprise Growth, he also has a keen interest to study the concept of social enterprise in the context of sport.
