Dr Matthew Brooke-Peat
About Dr Matthew Brooke-Peat
Matthew is a Chartered Architectural Technologist (MCIAT), Chartered Builder (MCIOB) and Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv). Since 1994, he has held positions in construction, architectural practice, academia and technical consultancy. During this time, Matthew has designed and managed new-build, refurbishment, restoration, renovation and conversion projects across a wide range of building types. Matthew is Course Director for Architectural Technology at the University where he engages in course development and management, teaching, research and consultancy activities. His specialist area of research and consultancy focuses on the thermal performance of building fabric.
He is actively involved with professional institutions at local and national level. Matthew is currently Vice President Education for the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT) and the CIAT Regional Treasurer for Yorkshire. His previous roles, amongst others, include: assessor for the Chartered Architectural Technologist (MCIAT) and Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) professional qualifications, CIAT Regional Education Officer for Yorkshire, CIAT UK Green Building Council Representative, member of the CIAT Membership Futures Working Group, member of the CIAT Defining Architectural Technology Practice Focus Group, and member of the CIAT Climate Change Taskforce. In addition, Matthew has participated in several scientific and specialist committees for academic conferences and he has acted as a reviewer for journals.
Matthew is the Course Director for Architectural Technology at the University where he leads the strategic development and delivery of a suite of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. In addition, he currently teaches the following modules:

- Experiential Learning
- Design and Specification (Module Leader)
- Major Design Project (Module Leader)
Matthew's current research focuses on the thermal performance of building fabric. Specialising in the thermal modelling of construction details, his work assessing the impact of thermal bridges on building fabric performance is contributing towards closing-the-loop in the analysis of measured whole building fabric heat loss.
