About Dr Paul Ratcliff

Dr Paul Ratcliff is Principal Lecturer in Music and Sound. He has worked on creative technology projects in field recording, audio editing, art installations and performances.

Currently he teaches field recording, contextual analysis and sound projects. His field recordings are being used in educational video games, installations, popular music compositions, performances and as demonstrations of how wildlife and human populations co-exist. Recently he has been recording a range of wildlife mostly in suburban and semi-rural environments, together with coastal areas of the UK and abroad. Additionally, Paul has been field recording in urban environments and in particular recordings of derelict or partially repurposed buildings and is currently working with a Leeds based photographer in examining sonically visually representations of such places.

Research Interests

Paul is a sound artist who specialises in using field recordings in his work. His recordings have been used in educational video games, installations, popular music compositions, performances and as demonstrations of how wildlife and human populations co-exist.
