About Dr Paul Widdop

A Research Fellow in cultural and Leisure sociology. His research interests are in the sociology of taste and consumption in the fields of Sport and leisure. Specifically, he is interested in exploring how social networks impact upon behaviour in these fields. In addition, he is also interested in the importance of place and neighbourhood effects in Sport and leisure, especially in the mediating role they play in developing and sustaining cultural lifestyles and cultural communities.

Recently, Paul has worked with the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) in developing and designing 12 pilot knowledge exchange workshops bringing academics and policy makers together to bridge the communication gap. These were held across the country partnered by government bodies such as Scottish Government, Public Health England and Department of Work and Pensions.
