About Keith Dando
Keith began his career in production, working on filmed sequences for computer games (Judge Dredd, Realms Of The Haunting, Warhammer 40,000) children’s television (BBC’s Total Reality) and a sci-fi pilot (Games Workshop’s Inquisitor). He then went on to produce two films, The Secret and Motherwood, which were broadcast on ITV.
A period as a freelancer followed, working as an AD and script supervisor on short films and features for Channel 4, Channel 5 and independent productions. Notable projects he worked on included Lambeth Marsh, directed by Clio Barnard, Tina Goes Shopping directed by Penny Woolcock, Does God Play Football and Terrible Kisses. During this time he also began teaching at the Northern Film School and the University of Bolton.
In 2005, Keith produced and directed Spaceboy, a UK Film Council short which screened in festivals worldwide and was among the ‘Best Of The Fest’ at the Los Angeles Outfest 2006. In 2006, he was co-creator and director of the Outsiders Film Festival in Liverpool. Since then he has focused on screenwriting with his co-writer, Leone Betts, with projects that have reached the finals of the Zoetrope contest, the Final Draft Big Break, Screamfest and Screenwriting Goldmine competitions.
After teaching on the MA Filmmaking course for a couple of years, he was appointed Course Leader in 2013.
Research Interests
He has recently commenced a PhD researching into the relationship of the filmmaker and the practice filmmaking. This is an interdisciplinary study that will explore the subject area through psychology, sociology and other social science models. He recently submitted an essay on the Czech surrealist horror ‘Valerie and her Week of Wonders’ for publication, and maintains a lifelong fascination with fantasy and science fiction material.
