About Mariana Moreira Lima
Mariana Lima is a Senior Lecturer for BA Fashion. Her academic background includes a BA in Fashion Design, a Post-Graduate Certificate in Creative Pattern Cutting, a BTEC in Theatrical Costume and an MA in History of Design. She has been working as a pattern cutter for over a decade, with previous clients/employers including Alexander McQueen, Victoria Beckham, and Emilia Wickstead, amongst others.
Her practical involvement with garment making triggered her interest in the techniques that have been used to make garments over time, how they developed, and how they can be applied to contemporary practice. Her research focuses on the impact of innovation on sixteenth century garment-making, with a particular focus on tailoring practices, and the use of non-woven materials in dress.
