Professor Annette Pritchard
Annette is Professor of Tourism Management, having worked at Sport Wales and Visit Wales and led Cardiff Met University’s Welsh Centre for Tourism Research (2000-2017). Annette writes on tourism and equity (especially gender) and on place management and reputation.
Annette is Professor of Tourism Management at Leeds Beckett University has extensive academic and research management experience in tourism and sport at Sport Wales and the Wales Tourist Board (now Visit Wales) and in higher education. Formerly Professor and Director of Cardiff Met University’s Welsh Centre for Tourism Research (2000-2017), Annette has led high-profile projects for funders and clients in the UK, Europe, the USA and Asia, including UNESCO, National Geographic and the BBC, given evidence on tourism performance to the Welsh and Westminster Parliaments and addressed the Council of Women World Leaders on tourism and gender equity.
Annette writes and research writes on the intersections between sociology, media studies and tourism and has a strong interest in tourism and gender equity and in how tourism places marketing and promote themselves. She has just completed a discussion paper on a post-Covid-19 tourism reset for North Wales Economic Ambition Board and is currently leading a small team, including colleagues at Surrey and Swansea Universities, on a British Academy-funded project focused on the impact of major infrastructure energy projects on tourism communities, specifically nuclear power station construction.
