Professor Maria Grahn-Farley

Professor

Professor Grahn-Farley holds a Doctoral Degree (S.J.D.) and a Masters of Laws (LL.M.) from Harvard Law School, USA, LL.M. from Gothenburg University, Sweden.  She has taught in the USA and Sweden before coming to Leeds Law School.

Professor Grahn-Farley has published in the areas of Critical Race Theory, Feminist Legal Theory, Postcolonial Theory, Child Rights, International Law and Critical Legal Theory. She has taught public international law, legal theory, US constitutional law, Swedish constitutional law, and child rights.

Professor Grahn-Farley's book on the Child Rights Convention won the academic book award of 2019.

  • Awarded £150,000 from The Swedish National Bank's Jubilee Foundation 2021: For the Advancement of the Humanities and Social Sciences
  • Awarded the Scandinavian Human Dignity Award 2021
  • Winner of the Swedish academic book of the year 2019 for Barnkonventionen - en kommentar (The Child Rights Convention - a commentary) £15,000

At the moment, Professor Grahn-Farley's research focus is two-fold; on climate justice and child rights, and on the role human rights play in democratic societies.
