About

Sanela is a course leader for Computing postgraduate awards, a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, with experience of external examiner, currently, undertaking a Doctorate in Education.

Sanela is teaching and leads a range of modules in the area of databases, business intelligence, data analysis, data warehousing, data privacy and regulations, data mining, OLAP, Visualisation and project modules on level 5 and 7. She also supervises undergraduate and master’s dissertations on topics such as:

  • To investigate the development of a system to collect student data, for the purpose of monitoring, pattern recognition, retention and achievement
  • Data quality in ETL Automation Process
  • To investigate the challenges & opportunities of Big Data in organisations handling large volumes of data
  • Agile curriculum changes: Case Study the computing curricula in secondary schools in England
  • An investigation into analysis of Service-Oriented Architecture: A case study based on Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP)

Sanela holds the role as Academic Advisor for undergraduate students and Course Leader for postgraduate awards, in which she supports the integration of home and overseas students into a new university environment and is their first point of contact when it comes to academic challenges. Similar responsibilities have been held in role of Erasmus coordinator for over 10 years.

Modules taught are directly linked to the way organisations manage, manipulate, regulate, use and understand data and its' value.

Research Interests

Sanela is currently working on her Doctorate in Education, to be submitted in 2021. Her thesis is titled Phenomenographic study of students' experience of the use of digital technology for independent learning, other research is in area of data analytics investigating the diversity of issues in the business.
