This workshop will cover aspects of supervision relating to both PhDs and professional doctorates. Specifically, it will focus on the code of practice for research awards, student milestones and the research degree sub-committee. The session is crucial for experienced supervisors who are new to our University, as well as experienced Leeds Beckett supervisors, as an annual refresher.
Preparing your Student for Final Year and Viva16 June 2020 , 13:00 - 15:30 Online
This practical workshop will guide you through the regulations, give you an insight into the processes and help you understand the procedures associated with your research students’ final year of study and preparing them for their final hurdle. It will cover all possible outcomes of the examination (and re-examination), the roles of those involved, and what to expect from a typical viva. It will also cover: making a successful writing-up application, identifying and approving examiners, thesis submission, mock viva and the actual viva.
Becoming a Research Awards Supervisor17 June 2020 , 10:00 - 15:00 Online
The Becoming a Research Award Supervisor professional development programme includes a one-day workshop that is supported by eight Epigeum Supervising Doctoral Studies online learning units. All staff new to the supervision of Research Students must attend this one-day workshop. Staff are strongly encouraged to undertake Epigeum online activities prior to attending the workshop. To become a supervisor you will need to have your CV approved at the University’s Research Degree Sub-Committee.
