Supporting students and businesses to thrive together

Jodie Hill studied for a Law degree at Leeds Beckett University and is now a part-time lecturer here at Leeds Law School, having trained as a barrister and cross-qualified to be a solicitor.

In 2018, she set up Thrive Law – now a multi-award-winning employment law firm. She set up the company as she believes that everyone should be enabled to thrive in the workplace.

Now a team of 12, Thrive Law specialises in employment law and HR, with a real focus on workplace mental health. Jodie’s mission is to educate and empower employers, ensuring the wellbeing of their staff. Diversity and inclusion underpins everything that Thrive does and, as the firm grows, so does its commitment to effecting meaningful change in the legal sector through its diversity and inclusion, and wellbeing focus.

Q1 - Tell us a bit about your yourself and what led you to working with the Business Centre

Our Managing Partner and Solicitor Jodie Hill lectures at Leeds Beckett University so when the time came to launch Thrive Law, approaching the nearby Business Centre in its beautiful surroundings of Queen Square Park seemed the obvious choice.

Q2 - What have been the benefits of working with us?

Aside from the great set-up and friendly staff at the Business Centre, one of the key benefits has been the close links with Leeds Beckett University students. Three students that we have taken on placement have eventually returned to us and secured permanent roles within the business. A host of other students have worked really well for us in placements or law vacation schemes – whilst we have been able to provide the students with some valuable experience for their future careers.

Q3 - What would you say to someone thinking of working with the Business Centre?

The University Business Centre is a welcoming and well-run facility with helpful, communicative and friendly staff. It is a lovely place to work at.
