PG Cert

Special Education Needs Coordination

Entry requirements

Applicants should either have at least a second class honours degree or have equivalent experience or training, normally from within the work environment. Please note that, although it is not a requirement for entry on to the course, it is important, for the purposes of the assessment, that applicants are currently based in an educational working environment and have access to SEN related data.

All applications should be supported by a reference, either academic or professional; you can download our reference template for completion.

All applicants should satisfy our University English language requirements.

Please note that having been awarded Qualified Teaching Status (QTS) or equivalent (EYTS and QTLS) is not an entry requirement for the course. However, students who successfully complete the course but are not fully qualified teachers will be awarded the PG Certificate in SEN Coordination but they will not have access to the National Award which is normally a requirement to be employed as SENCOs in English state-maintained schools. SENCOS currently employed in English state-maintained schools must complete their SENCO training within the first three years of their appointment. Please note that it is not possible to receive module/credit exemptions for any part of this course. Further details can be found at this link.

IELTS

IELTS 6.0 with no skills below 5.5, or an equivalent qualification. The University provides excellent support for any applicant who may be required to undertake additional English language courses.
