BSc (Hons)

Building Services Engineering (Top-Up)

Teaching & Learning

Build on your existing knowledge base and enhance your career development potential with five modules, including a major design project that will allow you to demonstrate your independent study skills.

What you'll learn

Develop your knowledge of building science, energy production and thermal performance. You'll begin to understand the impact of global warming, the carbon reduction agenda and its impact upon energy production, building design and performance.
Study the basics of financial decision-making. You'll begin to understand and analyse financial indicators and the commercial context in which organisations operate. This knowledge will foster a commercial awareness and enable you to make informed financial decisions.
Enhance your supporting knowledge of building services systems and develop an independent critical and analytical approach to systems design. You'll extend your problem-solving abilities in relation to energy systems and network analysis. You'll also develop a case study approach to the evaluation of building services systems design, installation and maintenance. This module will boost your analytical and critical thinking skills. You'll then be able to apply these skills to the production of viable and energy efficient BSE systems.
Boost your underpinning knowledge of building services control systems, energy efficiency and utilisation methods and thermal performance. You'll gain an understanding of the impact of intelligent buildings on energy efficiency, financial implications and facilities management from a global perspective.

What you'll learn

Enhance your knowledge of building services engineering. You'll develop a low energy strategy for a building and design appropriate building services systems. Your design will be supported by a detailed technical study of your proposed low energy solution.
