What you'll learn

Consider a range of approaches to interactive and reactive musical or artistic system design, as you create an original system for making and manipulating sound.
Explore a range of sound production techniques. This module will give you an understanding of key technologies, approaches and principles within the field of sound design. You'll also devise audio systems capable of producing appropriate sounds for a given brief.
Address the challenges of producing audio content for interactive media. You will evaluate the role of sound and music in games and use industry standard tools to produce audio that demonstrates your understanding.
The final project gives you the opportunity to combine your previous learning into a significant piece of work in an area of interest to you.
Broaden and deepen your knowledge by working with your tutor to identify a project and undertake a self-directed piece of work.
Develop your awareness of the methods and skills which are required in order to carry out research into the ideas and practice of music technology.

Examine the relationships between sound, music and image, and devise and create examples of audio-visual media to a professional standard.
Study the broad subject area of spatial audio. You'll start with the history and development of the subject area, from the cinema and early explorations in the commercial audio world. Moving through to the very latest developments in sound field synthesis and virtual reality, you'll explore the key technologies, techniques and concepts for spatial audio. Through practical demonstrations and workshops, this module will explore the capture, recording, processing, manipulation, presentation and delivery of spatial audio material. You'll build up a portfolio of work in the area of spatial audio to demonstrate your practical understanding of the tools and technologies used in spatial audio applications.
