What you'll learn

You'll be introduced to practice-based methods of visual communication for fashion. This will include page layout, image capture and manipulation and logo design. You'll also gain computer skills using Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.
Gain an understanding of historic and contemporary sources that inform and drive fashion trends, and the impact these have on the fashion industry in terms of design and from a wider context.
This module introduces the notion of branding within a fashion setting, providing you with an understanding of how fashion brands have impacted upon society, culture and the economy.

What you'll learn

Focusing on key theorists across modernism and postmodernism within shopping, retail, art and print media, this module will establish the cultural reasoning and framework behind fashion theory.
Develop an understanding of brand ethos and identity, along with customer profiling and market level in relation to the fashion industry. You will formulate and develop marketing concepts for an established fashion brand using a live brief or simulated industry conditions.
Building on your understanding of trends and their impact upon the fashion industry from year one, you will work to an industry-led brief to research contemporary and historic trends and predict fashion styles and marketing strategies.

Write an illustrated 6000-8000 word document explaining the theories supporting your research and self-initiated project work in marketing, visual communication and fashion writing.
You will have the opportunity to study your chosen occupation in depth and carry out research to increase your employability prospects. The career paths available are varied and involve potentially fashion marketing, communications and a variety of writing-based media. If you have chosen solely marketing options, you may wish to pursue a more business-orientated career.

Option modules may include

This course offers the opportunity to take a ‘sandwich’ year – a year of paid employment in industry which will build your skills and experience. This is usually taken between the second and third year of your degree, typically making your course four years in total.
