What you'll learn

Develop your knowledge and understanding of the teaching and learning of language, communication and literacy in a primary school setting. You'll learn through teaching sessions and directed study. This module will enable you to gain personal understanding and competence in your English subject knowledge for teaching.
Hone your knowledge and understanding of the teaching and learning of mathematics in a primary school setting. You'll learn through taught sessions and directed study. This module will enable you to gain personal understanding and competence in your mathematics subject knowledge for teaching. You'll have develop your knowledge of a range of approaches for teaching mathematics.
Explore the 3-11 curriculum and develop your understanding of the rationale for each curriculum area. If you are a student teacher on the 3-7 pathway, you'll focus on the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Areas of Learning. If you're on the 5-11 pathway, you'll consider the National Curriculum at KS1 and KS2 including religious education. You'll develop both your personal subject knowledge and the related knowledge to deliver high-quality teaching in each subject area.
This module will support you as you become a student teacher. You'll explore your personal academic journey and the influences you've encountered. We'll encourage you to connect your understanding of learning in a personal, professional and education policy context. You'll demonstrate your ability to reflect through a creative presentation.
Prepare you for professional practice through a series of taught sessions which focus on how to get ready for teaching. We'll guide the development of the skills you'll need to begin planning, teaching and assessing learning in the primary classroom.

You'll learn through subject-specific teaching in a cluster of STEM related subjects along with physical education (PE). You'll attend subject-specific lectures and seminars for mathematics, science, PE, geography, computing and design and technology supported by a generic lecture programme. You'll be encouraged to teach each of these subjects, if available, in placement to link your theoretical and practice-informed understanding.
You'll learn through subject-specific teaching in a cluster of arts-related subjects along with physical education (PE). You'll attend subject-specific lectures and seminars for mathematics, science, PE, geography, computing and design and technology supported by a generic lecture programme. We'll focus on a raising aspirations day which will enable you to work with visiting pupils for creative and cross-curricular learning. You'll be encouraged to teach each of these subjects, if available, in placement to link your theoretical and practice-informed understanding.
This module will support your journey to becoming an inclusive practitioner. We'll explore your developing understanding of inclusive practice within the current education policy context. You'll examine and critique your developing pedagogical practice as we support you in articulating your personal standpoint in relation to issues of inclusive practice.
Prepare you for year two professional practice. We'll guide the development of the skills you'll need to hone your planning, teaching and assessing learning in the primary classroom.

Consolidate your year one and two subject knowledge and understanding of subject content. You'll develop deeper knowledge of critical issues within the teaching of subjects in a primary learning environment. This will ensure you'll secure a comprehensive knowledge of all curriculum subjects and address areas of personal weakness. We'll explore the important role English and maths has in the primary curriculum alongside a focus on the wider curriculum subjects. You'll select, gather, critically evaluate and organise data from a wide range of primary and secondary sources. You'll demonstrate comprehensive subject, curricular and pedagogic knowledge and understanding for teaching in your chosen age phase.
Build on the knowledge and skills gained across your course. You'll explore a specific approach to delivering learning within the primary learning environment in greater depth, with a chosen elective focus. You'll develop your understanding of leadership through a group filmed project exploring the teaching and learning in your chosen subject area. This module will enable you to collaborate and develop your own interests as you draw on the expertise of your group.
You'll be supported in exploring a subject of your choice to deepen your understanding of education. You'll develop your critical analysis skills through the design and implementation of a small-scale research study.
