Learning Environment Advancement Programme (LEAP) & Teaching Room Improvement Programme (TRIP)
> Click here for the list of updated teaching spaces.
Beginning in the 2016/17 academic year, our University has adopted a five year Teaching Room Improvement Program (TRIP). This is an ambitious and exciting all-year-round cross-department activity with an aim to update one of our Teaching and Learning spaces every week. IT Services will be investing over £600,000 annually into this programme which targets our front-line services and is aimed at enhancing the Student Experience.

With the upgrades, we have installed solid-state hard drives in the teaching computers as standard for faster boot times as well as touch interfaces on the control panels and monitors. We now include document cameras which can be used as a whiteboard or document scanner and enables greater interactive usage for the presenter. Additionally we have included features such as Poll Everywhere for interactive audience participation and AirServer for mobile screen sharing, which allow for a much more immersive teaching experience.

We are working to improve our support mechanisms to allow for greater remote control and preventative maintenance of the AV equipment. Over the coming months, we will be re-developing the user interface on the lectern control-panel to allow for one-touch operation and provide a simpler less cluttered interface.

Flexible Learning Spaces to provide Pedagogy Innovation

To support changes in pedagogy and a more mobile computing and interactive age, we are introducing new assistive technologies to support a more enabling Teaching and Learning environment.

Fairfax 105 has been fitted with height-adjustable interactive touch screens which can operate independently as well as duplicating the primary lectern display. WiPG (wireless presentation gateways) allow for content to be shared from mobile devices to attendees in the room and, if required, from across the globe. Visualisers allow for video capture as well as displaying non-electronic subject matter.

Replay Lecture Capture Service

Replay is a 'listen again' service where lectures are captured and published online for students to replay.

The Replay service uses Panopto software to capture the speaker's voice, PC screen and PowerPoint slides, and packages them together for viewing online. On Replay, students can search for keywords used in PowerPoint presentations to view a specific section, or watch the whole lecture.

Using the scheduled service, the non-invasive recording happens in the background and recordings can be published directly to MyBeckett. Alternatively, lectures can be manually recorded using the classroom-based Panopto Recorder.

Schedule a Recording

You can request a recording through the IT Self-Service Portal. Click 'Make a Request' and search for 'Panopto', you should see a box titled 'Lecture Capture Schedule Request' click this and fill in the form (please give at least 24 hours' notice - we will contact you to confirm your recording has been scheduled).

To set up a link between Replay and your MyBeckett modules, see instructions.

You can access the recordings you have made or requested at the Replay website.
