On 28 January 2021, our colleagues Professor David Parsons and Dr Miju Choi attended the European Commission and OECD Policy Conference, Switzerland. Professor Parsons presented the keynote address on the potential for public policy responses to prepare the tourism workforce for the digital future. The virtual policy conference was joined by 250 policy makers, professional bodies and industry leaders and drew on David and Miju’s work for OECD assessing skills challenges, gaps and the challenges for industry and providers as the sector looks to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Professor Parsons and Dr Choi’s report for OECD’s 42 country Tourism Committee will be published later in April following its submission to a G20 working group.

Commenting on the project, Dean Rhodri Thomas stated: ‘The research undertaken for the OECD Tourism Secretariat reflects how highly regarded many of my colleagues are among key stakeholders.  In this case, Professor Parsons and Dr Choi are leading important work on digital skills in the sector that is likely to be highly influential post-pandemic’.
