Professor Leanne Norman | From equality to justice: Addressing the issue of gender in sports coaching and leadership
During her inaugural professorial lecture Professor Leanne Norman will share the origins, successes, stories, challenges, and impact of her research into the lack of gender equity within sports leadership.

For 15 years, Professor Leanne Norman has had the privilege of leading research that tackles the long-standing and stubborn problem of gender inequity within sports leadership.

The driving purpose of this work has not only been about promoting a more gender-balanced UK coaching and leadership workforce but also the inclusion of different groups of women within the profession who have largely been isolated and marginalised.

In her inaugural professorial lecture, Leanne will share the origins, successes, stories, challenges, and impact of this research. Sharing work that she has led with sports organisations, governing bodies, charities, and the women themselves. It will explore what precisely do we mean by ‘inclusion’, what does that look like in sports leadership.

As part of this, Professor Norman will discuss the broader landscape of women’s representation and their experiences as sport coaches and leaders to reflect on current individual and organisational thinking towards issues of gender diversity and inclusion. This is to explore a more systemic and cultural approach to achieving gendered justice in sports leadership.

This lecture is part of Leeds Beckett university's inaugural professional lecture series.
