Disability Advice Team

The Disability Advice Team offers support, information and guidance on any disability related matters while you're at university.

Support is available to you for a range of disabilities and long term conditions such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, a mental health condition (e.g. depression, anxiety, etc.), a long term health condition (e.g. epilepsy, IBS, diabetes, etc.), autism, a physical or a sensory condition.

If you have a disability, long-term physical or mental health condition, or a specific learning difference, we believe this should never be a barrier to studying at our university.

Please contact us as soon as possible to ensure everything is in place before your course starts.

  1. What should I do next?

    • Register with our Disability Advice Team
    • We will ask you to provide evidence of your disability, usually from a health professional or educational psychologist. Don’t worry if you haven’t got any, we can support you with this
    • We will arrange an appointment with your Disability Adviser to discuss any adjustments you might need to fully participate on your course and support you in applying for Disabled Students’ Allowance

  1. What is Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA)?

DSA is government funding to help with the cost of any additional support you might need while studying, such as: one-to-one support, specialist equipment, useful software and travel.

I have found that being a disabled student at university hasn’t taken anything away from the university experience and has actually made me more comfortable in my disability.

I was a little nervous asking for help at first as I didn’t want to be seen as incapable, but the staff here are so calm and caring which allows me to clearly express clearly what I’m struggling with. I couldn’t have asked for better tutors.

At Leeds Beckett, all the teachers aim to make sure that every individual student understands the content of work, is comfortable with the course and has knowledge of where and when to seek guidance and help.
