Leeds Beckett University joins forces with retail giant IKEA
The scholarship will provide postgraduate public relations students from the university with the chance to win a four-week internship at the Birstall store, which serves over 1 million customers from its base on Holden Ing Way.
Students will have the opportunity to receive coaching and support from the store’s senior staff when the scheme launches in September 2018.
The paid internship will enable students to gain an understanding of the skills needed to have a successful management career.
Entries close on Friday 22 June 2018, with the six most promising candidates being put forward to be interviewed in July 2018. The winner will be selected in August 2018.
Professor George Lodorfos, Dean of Leeds Business School, said: "Our mission is bringing learning to life though practice and the IKEA Leeds Business School On The Way Scholarship will bring students closer to business and the professions.
“Working with IKEA, one of the world’s most iconic brands, gives students a good insight of what it’s like to work in a real world context. IKEA’s values of an inclusive, open and honest culture is something that we admire, so our shared partnership with the company is a perfect fit for us.”
Tom Douglas, Store Manager at IKEA Leeds, said: “We are keen to build our partnership with Leeds Business School because we believe their students can help us to grow our business in the Leeds area in a sustainable way.
“For us it’s a win-win partnership.”
The scholarship is the university’s latest collaboration with the furniture retailer, which has been developing new communications campaigns with Leeds Beckett students for the past seven years.
