Leeds Beckett University and Wakefield College strengthen links
Vice Chancellor at Leeds Beckett, Professor Peter Slee, and Sam Wright, Principal of Wakefield College, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the university’s City Campus in Leeds, formalising a pledge to work together on a range of initiatives to develop education and skills provision in Wakefield.
The MoU means the university and the College working together over the next five years to provide joint business support, learning, research, development and outreach opportunities.
The university’s business incubation service will be hosted at the College’s University Centre in Wakefield to provide quick and easy access to support small businesses in the area. The university and College will also work together to develop Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities, with a particular focus on business incubation and business engagement, as well as collaborating to create pathways to support the development of higher level skills, and developing new courses and research bids to secure funding opportunities.
Professor Slee said: “In signing this MoU we are creating an unrivalled commitment to supporting local business, students and the economy of Wakefield and the surrounding area. We look forward to strengthening our partnership with Wakefield College and working on a range of new collaborative projects together.”
College Principal, Sam Wright, added: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Leeds Beckett University to support the development of higher level skills to power the local economy in Wakefield; the key focus for the College’s University Centre.”
Leeds Beckett University and Wakefield College already work very closely with Wakefield Council on a range of initiatives to benefit the district.
