Jo Cox tribute single recorded by Leeds Beckett PhD student
PhD student and visiting lecturer Phil Harding engineered vocal sessions at the Backstage Centre in Thurrock, Essex, in November.
The single, a cover of the Rolling Stones’ You Can’t Always Get What You Want, features vocals by Graphic Arts & Design graduate Ricky Wilson (Kaiser Chiefs), KT Tunstall, David Gray, Suzi Quatro and Steve Harley.
Project organiser, MP Kevin Brennan, also features on the single with fellow members of Parliament band MP4 Sir Greg Knight, Pete Wishart and Ian Cawsey and the Parliament Choir and the Royal Opera House Thurrock Community Chorus.
Mrs Cox, 41, who was Labour MP for Batley and Spen at the time, was shot and stabbed in Birstall, in front of her staff and residents in June.
The song, released next year, will mark the launch of the Jo Cox Foundation, which will raise funds for causes close to the late MP.
Phil was Chief Engineer for Pete Waterman Limited (PWL) and SAW and has recorded hits for Kylie Minogue, Rick Astley, Pet Shop Boys and Bananarama.
On his involvement, he said: “I was delighted and honoured to be invited to engineer the vocal sessions.”
