New fitness qualifications launched at Leeds Beckett
Leeds Beckett has been delivering fitness qualifications to its students since 1996 and has now opened up the opportunity to study for a Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing or Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training Qualifications to the general public
The qualifications, approved by YMCAfit, one of the UK's leading trainers of fitness professionals, are aimed at those wanting to pursue a career in the health and fitness industry as a fitness instructor or personal trainer in the context of gym-based exercise.
As Dr Tim Bennett, Senior Lecturer in the School of Sport at Leeds Beckett, explained: “We are delighted to offer these two industry recognised courses to students looking to develop their CV and employability within the fitness industry.”
The Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing Gym Based Exercise is a five-day practical course as well as elements of eLearning and costs £550.
Participants will learn about anatomy and physiology, how to programme safe and effective exercise for a range of clients as well as gaining the skills and knowledge required to plan and prepare a gym-based exercise programme for adults of all ages.
Participants attending the Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training will be able to launch or progress their career within the fitness industry as a personal trainer, through learning how to design and implement an exercise programme for individuals. Attendees will also learn how to ensure the effectiveness of personal exercise programmes, employ appropriate motivational strategies to achieve this utilising a variety of exercises (free weights, machine weights and CV machines) as well as advanced training protocols. The ten day course includes two assessment days and costs £750.
Speaking about completing the courses, Daniel Sturgess, a recent participant said: “I found them thoroughly interesting, insightful and enjoyable. Learning about anatomy and physiology as well as nutrition and how to deliver content to people has made me an effective coach. The learning has given me the skills and confidence to achieve a job as a fitness instructor.
“I now work with several clients creating and altering gym plans as well as inducting newcomers, giving advice and answering questions to those who need help. I have shown positive results with my programmes enabling 23 clients so far to reach their goal body weight, figure, strength and so on. I can only put my success is down to the teaching I acquired from the gym qualifications.”
