Leeds Beckett Partnership with ICOACHKIDS recognised in Nike’s Global Impact Report
Leeds Beckett University's ICOACHKIDS partnership has gained recognition in Nike's Global Impact Report FY23.
ICOACHKIDS is a global initiative focused on improving youth sports around the world through free digital resources and community-building. Led by members of the Carnegie School of Sport, the organisation is highlighted in Nike's new report for its efforts to promote positive, safe and inclusive sports experiences for children worldwide. ICOACHKIDS is notably one of the few external resources featured.
As a founding member of ICOACHKIDS, Leeds Beckett works to positively influence policy and practice in youth sport. Previous Leeds Beckett studies found that women and people from minority ethnic backgrounds are underrepresented in coaching, and through the ICOACHKIDS partnership with Nike, Leeds Beckett aims to increase the quality, quantity and diversity of trained volunteer youth coaches. Since partnering with Nike in 2020, ICOACHKIDS' free educational resources now reach thousands of coaches and organisations globally.
Gary Hodgson, Postdoctoral Fellow at Leeds Beckett University said: "We're extremely proud of this recognition and our continued work in partnership with Nike to achieve our mutual strategic goals. Over the course of the last year, this has included re-launching the ICOACHKIDS Essentials - a short course that we filmed at LBU in 2020 and attracting an audience of over 180,000 people from 85 countries worldwide. The recognition in this report demonstrates the real-life impact of our work, supported by Leeds Beckett and will help us to make even more of a positive difference in the youth sports space moving forward."
