Beckett Rugby Union to face Exeter at Emerald Headingley Stadium

Leeds Beckett’s BUCS Super Rugby team will face top of the table Exeter at Emerald Headingley Stadium on Wednesday 28 November.

The match sees Beckett compete against last season’s league winners at Headingley Stadium.

Beckett have won their last two matches at the iconic venue, including a memorable 51-5 Varsity victory over the University of Leeds.

The team have endured a tough start to their league campaign - with just two victories so far in the league, including a 35-7 win at Headingley Stadium last month over Cardiff University.

Beckett's latest defeat saw them edged 18-17 by high-fliers Hartpury, the only other team Beckett have defeated earlier this season. Despite their disappointing start to the season, however, club captain Steffan James believes Beckett has what it takes to topple current league leaders Exeter.

Steffan said “Exeter will be a massive game for us.We faced them in our first game of the season and were disappointed with our performance, so the boys are keen to make amends this time round. We’ll have to be at our best but we’re capable of beating them.”

The team are looking forward to their return to the stadium and hope to play in front of a bumper crowd.

“The lads all enjoy playing at the stadium.” he said

“It’s a fantastic facility and it certainly brings the best out of us, we’ve had two really big wins there this year so hopefully we’ll be able to continue that form into the game,

“We’d love all Beckett students to come down to support us and hopefully be able to cheer us on to victory.”

The match will be the official BUCS Super Rugby Rainbow Laces fixture for this season. The game will raise awareness and support of the Rainbow Laces campaign with all players set to wear special laces for the match.
