Password Reset

In this page, you'll find information about the Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR) service including how to register, how to reset your password, and how to change your password.

You will need to be registered with Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and have at least 2 forms of authentication (such as the authenticator app and text message) set-up to use SSPR. Most accounts are already registered with MFA.

Register for MFA and SSPR if you haven’t done so already.

If you have registered for SSPR, you can reset your own password. You will need to pass two verification checks using the methods you set up when registering for SSPR.

  1. From our password reset page, enter your Leeds Beckett email address as the username, and complete the CAPTCHA test by typing in the letters or words on the screen
  2. Select “I’ve forgotten my password” and click “Next”
  3. Complete two verification steps using the methods you registered – for example approve a notification in the Microsoft Authenticator app and then enter a code sent in a text message
  4. Enter a new password, and then enter it again to confirm. For advice on creating a strong password please review our password guidance page

If your account has had too many failed logins, it may have been automatically “locked” (in case someone else is trying to guess your password). You can unlock your account yourself without needing to contact the IT Service Desk. You will need to pass two verification checks using the methods you set up when registering for SSPR.

  1. From our password reset page, enter your Leeds Beckett email address as the username, and complete the CAPTCHA test by typing in the letters or words on the screen
  2. Select “I know my password, but still can’t sign in” and click “Next”
  3. Complete two verification steps using the methods you registered – for example approve a notification in the Microsoft Authenticator app and then enter a code sent in a text message
  4. Your account will then be unlocked and you can try to log in again
  5. More information can be found on our password guidance page

As long as you know your existing password, you can change it in two ways.

  • While logged in to a Leeds Beckett staff or student desktop PC, you can change it by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del and then clicking on “Change a Password”. You’ll need to enter your current password once, and the new password twice
  • From anywhere, you can change your password in a web browser through the update password page

More information can be found on our password guidance page.

To keep the university’s IT systems secure, we will register your account for you IF you do not do it within the first few weeks of your account being active. This is to ensure no-one else can gain access to your account. When we’ve done this, you will need to contact your IT Support Service to get access to your account.

  • Students should contact the Library IT Help
  • Staff should contact the IT Service Desk on 0113 812 2222 or visit the desks in either Library
