National Fitness Day - Wednesday 26 September
National Fitness Day encourages the entire nation to celebrate the fun of fitness and physical activity across the UK and is a chance to highlight the role physical activity plays and helps raise awareness of the importance of leading healthier and active lifestyles.
We will have a wide range of fitness classes and activities available for you to get involved with on Wednesday 26 September and beyond with classes including our new Les Mills programme and some returning favourites.
If fitness classes aren't your thing we'll still have our gyms at Headingley and City campuses, swimming pool including brand new Swimtag technology and sports facilities available for you to come in and get involved with all of the fun.
First Year Undergraduate memberships
First year Undergraduate students don't forget to activate your FREE Active Beckett PLUS membership.
Active Beckett PLUS give you full access to any of our gyms, fitness classes and swimming pool across both City and Headingley campuses.

Activities you can get involved with
Members can access any (and as many) fitness classes as you physically can do for free. No class booking fees required and no limit to how many classes you can take part in.
Non-members staff and students can still take part in our fitness class sessions and get involved in the fun. For just £4 per class you can come and join in with our classes to see if our fitness classes are for you.
Finally non-members that aren't members of staff or students at Leeds Beckett University can also come and take part in our classes, so if you live nearby or regularly pass Leeds Beckett throughout your day you can get involved with a class for just £4.50 per class.

The Leadership Academy is an employability and leadership programme aimed at students who want to develop their skills and experience in coaching and leadership by supporting the delivery of our social sport, junior and strength and conditioning programmes.
There are a variety of roles available to apply for such as Senior, Lead or Assistant coach, Sports Activator or Strength & Conditioning Intern.
Students must have prior experience of coaching, leading or organising sports activities.
They must also want to gain additional qualifications whilst developing their skills in a sporting environment.
Honorarium payments, kit, sports membership and CPD financial support is available for different coaching ability tiers.
New for this year, we are offering a range of activities for you to try such as yoga, running and even an introduction to weightlifting.
Our courses are ideal for beginners or those looking at getting back into physical activity. Each course is delivered by qualified instructors who will support you to reach your goals.
Semester one courses start on the week commencing 8 October 2018
Our Social Leagues provide you the opportunity to play sport for fun in a competitive environment.
We offer two sports as part of our leagues offer - 7-a-side football and Netball
To be eligible to play in our leagues you must be a student or staff member.
Teams can be made up from halls, courses, societies or a group of friends, so get your team together and sign up today!
Our social sport programme gives you the chance to take part in sport in a fun and relaxed environment.
With over 20 sessions each week, it is the perfect opportunity to try something new and keep active whilst at university.
Most of the sessions are on a turn up and play basis so why not come and give them a try.
Members of Sport & Active Lifestyles can swim for free at our Headingley Campus swimming pool. We run designated open swim sessions for people to come and enjoy swimming in our pool.
If you are not a member you can still come and swim in our pool for just £3 per swim.
Our newly installed Swimtag wristbands allows you to track your swims in our Headingley Campus swimming pool. Your session won't cost any extra to wear a swimtag wristband and is simple and easy to use.

We all know that exercise improves your physical wellbeing. But did you know it helps to improve your mental wellbeing as well?
Sport and physical activity can help lift your mood, take away built up stresses and can improve sleep, reduce anxiety and increase self-esteem.
This year we will be running initiatives throughout the year to help make your time at Leeds Beckett a happy, productive and active one.
Being active doesn’t have to mean doing sport or going to the gym. There are lots of way to be active - find the one that works for you!

LBU fitness class descriptions
BODYATTACK is a high-energy fitness class with moves that cater for total beginners to total addicts.
We combine athletic movements like running, lunging and jumping with strength exercises such as push-ups and squats.
A LES MILLS instructor will pump out energizing tunes and lead you through the workout – challenging your limits in a good way, burning up to 730 calories* and leaving you with a sense of achievement.
Step into a BODYCOMBAT workout and you’ll punch and kick your way to fitness, burning up to 740 calories along the way.
This high-energy martial-arts inspired workout is totally non-contact and there are no complex moves to master.
Our Les Mills instructor will challenge you to up the intensity and motivate you to make the most of every round.
You’ll release stress, have a blast and feel like a champ.
BODYPUMP is a barbell workout for anyone looking to get lean, toned and fit – fast.
Using light to moderate weights with lots of repetition, BODYPUMP gives you a total body workout. It will burn up to 540 calories*.
Instructors will coach you through the scientifically proven moves and techniques pumping out encouragement, motivation and great music – helping you achieve much more than on your own!
LES MILLS GRIT™ Cardio is a 30 minute high-intensity interval training (HIIT) workout that improves cardiovascular fitness, increase speed and maximize calorie burn.
GRIT Strength is a 30-minute high-intensity interval training (HIIT) workout, designed to improve strength and build lean muscle.
This workout uses barbell, weight plate and body weight exercises to blast all major muscle groups.
GRIT takes cutting edge HIIT and combines it with powerful music and inspirational coaches who will be down on the floor with you, motivating you to go harder to get fit, fast.

ABSolution is for anyone looking to increase their fitness and their lifestyle by strengthening the powerhouse of the body–the core.
The perfect class for those recovering from injuries and for those seeking improving their general wellbeing.
This plyometric circuit will lead you to jump higher and further, to run quicker and faster, to throw an object or ball farther and to lift bigger weights with more ease.
From the Sanskrit “to place in a special way,” vinyasa aligns a deliberate sequence of poses with the breath to achieve a continuous flow.
Inhalation is usually connected to upward, open movements, while exhalation is often tied to downward movements or twists.
In this class, postures are practiced to align, strengthen and promote flexibility in the body breathing techniques and meditation are also integrated.
You can expect an emphasis on simplicity, repetition, and ease of movement.
Full-body relaxation and balance are the goals, as we make a full circuit of the body’s range of motion with standing postures, twists, backbends, forward folds, and hip openers.
