Senior Lecturer

Elizabeth is a Senior Lecturer in the department of International and Global Studies (formerly Languages). She has worked at Leeds Beckett since 1999.

Elizabeth studied Chinese at Cambridge and later did an MPhil in Linguistics. She has worked abroad in several countries and now works largely with international students at Leeds Beckett, developing their skills in English for Academic Purposes (EAP).

Research Interests

Elizabeth is currently exploring gender and language in children's fiction. She has published a book on gender roles in twentieth-century adventure fiction, and several papers analysing the language of these texts. She is interested in their possible sociocultural influence on the development of gender identity.

Previously she has worked on a number of projects around academic writing skills, particularly in relation to international students.
