Monitor a test in Inspera

This is a staff guide to monitoring tests in Inspera and includes incident extra time, resubmission,  sending messages and flagged events.

Inspera is currently available for use in the Law School and School of Health (Nursing courses), to service PSRB mandated requirements for academic integrity in examinations.

When a test is activated, it will be visible to students on their Inspera candidate dashboard.

The test will open automatically at the start time, and close at the end time.

To monitor an active test:

a. Log in to Inspera.

b. Click Deliver.

d. Click on the test you want to monitor.

e. The test details will open.

Below the test details, you will find an overview of the students who are attached to the test, and their progress.

The candidate information will display live updates during the test.

f. To view a complete candidate list, click View All.

g. This will open the Monitor page in a new tab.

a. On the Monitor page, you can take different actions for individual or multiple students, depending on their status (e.g. Inactive, In Progress, Submitted)

Here are some examples:

  • Send message
  • Add or subtract planned extra time
  • Add or subtract unplanned extra time (e.g. if there is an incident)
  • Exempt from lockdown
  • Set attending or not attending
  • Flag or unflag
  • Set ID confirmed or rejected
  • Upload submission or attach file (these actions will set candidate status to Submitted)
  • Pause or unpause
  • Open or close for resubmission
  • View submission
  • Download and print
  • View results (if test is ready for marking)

b. To take an action for an individual student, click the More option on the right of their row in the monitoring table (hover your mouse cursor over the row and the More button will appear). Available actions will be displayed in a drop-down list.

c. To take the same action for more than one student, tick the checkboxes to the left of their names and then use the menu that pops up at the bottom of the page if you prefer.

If you need to add or remove extra time for a candidate during a test:

a. Click the More button on the right of the student's row in the monitoring table (hover your mouse cursor over the row and the More button will appear).

b. Click Incident extra time.

c. Select whether you want to add, subtract or set the time available for the candidate. Enter the time in minutes, then click Update.

If a candidate accidentally submits their test attempt, you can reopen this in order for them to continue:

a. Click the More button on the right of the student's row in the monitoring table (hover your mouse cursor over the row and the More button will appear).

b. Click Resubmission.

c. Select Allow candidate to resubmit within test window.

This option is not available if the test end time has passed. The test window may vary between students depending on extra time. The candidate will have the same end time as before they submitted.

d. Click Update.

If a candidate forgets to submit their test attempt, you can do this for them:

a. Click the More button on the right of the student's row in the monitoring table (hover your mouse cursor over the row and the More button will appear).

b. Click Resubmission.

c. Click Do not allow candidate to resubmit.

d. Select Submit current version.

e. The candidate's status will be updated to Submitted.

Tick the checkbox to the left of the student that you want to communicate with via Inspera.

b. Click the Send message option in the pop-up menu at the bottom of the screen.

c. Type a subject and your message.

d. Click Send.

e. The student will receive a notification at the top right of their Inspera exam window. They can read this during the exam but they cannot reply to the message.

First check that you can see the Confidence level (Events) column in your list of students.

If you cannot, click the Table View button at the top right, and scroll down to tick the checkbox to the left of Confidence level (Events).

b. The Confidence level (Events) column will show a coloured dot and a percentage.

  • Events with confidence level < 70% are marked in red
  • Events with confidence level > 70% are marked in green
  • Events without confidence level are marked in amber

c. Click the percentage for the student you want to view.

d. This will open a video player*. You can skip to the flagged sections using the play bar or click the Events tab to view a summary in list view.

e. To view the student's ID and photo, click the Events tab. You may need to scroll to the bottom to view the ID check.

*If there are multiple sessions for a student, you will see the start and end time of each session, the date, the confidence level, and the number of flagged events.
