Edit and reuse a test

If you want to change the name, description or test availability settings, you can do this by editing the test options. These instructions only apply to tests that you have deployed within a module content area.

a. Locate the test within your module, then click the action link that appears to the right of the test name. Click Edit the Test Options from the drop-down menu.

b. You can change settings under the following headings. More information is available in our guide to adding a test to a content area.

• Test information: Options include the test name and the text shown below the test name. You can also specify whether the test description and instructions display to students before they start the test, and whether the test opens in a new window.
• Test availability: For students to take the test, the link must be available. Other options in this section relate to the number of times that a student can attempt the test, whether the test must be completed in one sitting and/or within a time limit, and if the test is password protected. 
• Test availability exceptions: You can add users or module sub-groups to an exception list.
• Due date: You have the option to add a due date for the test, and specify if students can start the test after the due date has passed.
• Self-assessment options: Options in this section allow you to include or exclude test results from instructors and Grade Centre.
• Show test results and feedback to students: This section controls how and when test results and feedback display to students.
• Test presentation: Options include how the test questions are presented to students (all at once, one at a time), whether students can go back and change an answer, and if questions are randomised for tests with multiple attempts.

c. When you have finished making changes, click Submit to save.

If you want to make changes to the test content, such as questions and points per question, you can do this by editing the test itself.

a. Locate the test within your module, then click the action link that appears to the right of the test name. Click Edit the Test from the drop-down menu.

Note: If you have not yet deployed the test to a module content area, you can access it via the Module Management menu at the bottom left. Click Module Tools, then Tests, Surveys and Pools. Click Tests, then click the action link to the right of the test name in order to access the Edit option.

b. To edit the test name, description and/or instructions, click the action link to the right of the test name at the top of the canvas. Click Edit.

c. Make your changes then click Submit.

d. To edit a question, hover your cursor over the question then click the action link that appears to the right of the question. Click Edit.

e. The settings available for you to change will depend on the question type you are editing. You can find out more in our guide to question types. When you have finished making changes, click Submit to save.

f. To change the points per question, you can change the value in the box to the right of the question details.

g. If your test includes question sets, you can:

• Change the number of questions from the set to display.
  
• Change the points per question.
  
• Add or remove questions by clicking the arrow to expand Questions in the Set. If you want to remove a question, tick the checkbox to the left of the question and click Remove Question.You can then click Add Questions (more information is available in our guide to question sets).
  

h. To reorder questions, you can click and drag individual questions up and down the canvas. If you click Hide Question Details before doing this, it is a bit easier.
