Joining forces with the NHS
The university’s Vice Chancellor Professor Peter Slee and the LTHT Chief Medical Officer Dr Yvette Oade signed a Memorandum of Understanding which also includes a commitment to collaborate on research projects and co-develop joint academic and clinical posts.
Professor Slee, Vice Chancellor of Leeds Beckett University, said: “LBU and Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust are part of the Leeds Anchors network. Our partnership underlines our commitment to improving health outcomes for people here in Leeds.”
Dr Oade, Chief Medical Officer at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “We are greatly looking forward to furthering our partnership working with Leeds Beckett University to ensure we maximise clinical research opportunities for our patients, staff and partners.
"This agreement underlines our commitment to improving patient care by putting research and innovation at the heart of all we do at LTHT."
The five-year partnership signals the start of a planned long-term partnership between the two organisations.
Leeds Beckett conducts a variety of specialist research related to health and wellbeing, including physical activity and obesity, dementia, and antibiotic resistance.
The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is one of the largest teaching hospitals in Europe, with over 18,000 colleagues providing local and specialist medical services for 770,000 people. It is known globally for delivering excellent specialist care, research and medical training.
