Obesity is a highly complex disease driven by many varying factors. Therefore, providing effective solutions and support for people living with obesity requires the skills and expertise for many disciplines and sectors.
The Obesity Institute brings together these different multi-disciplinary skills drawing on the academic and professional expertise from across Leeds Beckett University and also our wider academic policy and practice partners to address these modern challenges of obesity. The institute has one clear vision to improve the lives of people living with or at risk of obesity. All our work is underpinned by our public and patient involvement and engagement hub.
This hub will ensure we have a person-centred approach to our work, so we can listen to the voices and see the impact of real lived experiences in collaboration across diverse communities. The obesity institute will continually evolve, creating accessible and inclusive programs of work in areas such as prevention, systems science, health inequalities, and treatment.
The institute will have three key areas of innovative activity: research, education and training, and knowledge exchange. Our core values are showing care, compassion, collaboration, effectiveness, equality and inclusion in everything we do. We want our work to be useful to both the wider public and the individual people that we serve and to develop a new generation of compassionate, person-centred professionals.
