Leeds Beckett Sport Hall of Fame | Looking back at our launch event

Leeds Beckett Sport Hall of Fame 2025

Welcome to Headingley Campus, on what is a very special occasion, the launch of our Leeds Beckett University Sport Hall of Fame and serving as an inspiration to past, present and future students.

"In the olden days, if you wrote on the wall up here, they'd have kicked you out, so finding your name up there legitimately is quite good."

"And for all of the different names that the university has had, it's retained its attraction to people who enjoy sport and practice it at the highest level. We're all inspired by people we see, and we recognise and that's exciting."

"We want to inspire the next generation to go and do incredible things because they're all capable of it and hopefully that's what we've started today."

"This place has always remained strong in my heart and it's a privilege to be back here and to see amazing developments here really."

"There's some real champions, men and women, inspirational people. I think it's really important that they tell that story.

"Iron sharpens iron, and one person sharpens another, and this is a great event to sharpen each other."

"Yeah, obviously there's so many amazing sports, women and males that have come to Leeds Beckett University. So to be recognised amongst them is, you know, obviously a bit of a pinch yourself moment, but it's just great to be in a room with them and recognising their achievements as well as mine."

"Well, by studying sports science, I learnt a lot about the kind of fundamentals behind sport that taught me a lot which I could directly apply to my own career. And I think that helped me progress a lot quicker than I would have done if it wasn't for what I learnt here."

"You know, in general, typically the gold medallist or the world champion or the world record holder gets all the all the credit. And actually they've always got a massive team of people behind them as I did when I was at Park Run and then the other things I did. But yeah, I think it's really great to see people being recognised for enabling sport as well as for doing it."

"It's a really nice feeling. You feel it's an honour that you know that even that the remember when you were here. Don't be afraid of taking that challenge because it can take you to some very special places. So now they have this fantastic building and facilities and then obviously have a wall with all these amazing athletes, that actually studied here and have gone on to achieving incredible things. Surely that's got to inspire more people to want to be a part of that."
