Our university has 2,800 staff, 24,000 students and occupies 46 buildings across two campuses, one in the centre of Leeds and one three miles north of the city centre in Headingley. As a large organisation our operations have a significant local, national and global impact.

Improve our overall environmental impact
Reducing our negative environmental impacts and improving our positive impacts is a core principle of our university strategy.
Embed sustainability principles via our research and practice
Through our teaching and collaborative approaches within our research and practice centres such as the Sustainable Business Research Institute and Leeds Sustainability Institute, we are helping to embed sustainable practices within the city and region.
Leeds Beckett University is a signature to the voluntary Concordat for the Environmental Sustainability of Research and Innovation Practice as a commitment to progressively embed environmental sustainability into all research and innovation practices. The concordat supports the wider ambition set out by the UK Government to achieve net zero by 2050. Our Vice Chancellor Professor Peter Slee’s letter details our full commitment to the Concordat’s principles in alignment with our sustainability strategy.
