Set up your summer workspace
1. Set up safely
Working from home does not guarantee a hazard-free environment. It is important to check that electrical cables are positioned safely and are free from any defects. Heavy items should be managed carefully and not be at risk of falling.
2. Sort the right spot
A work-life balance isn’t always easy but working from home need not compromise this. Find a peaceful corner where there are minimal distractions. If you’re working in a small space, you could try setting up temporary zones by hanging blankets and screens to separate your workspace.
3. Perfect your posture
To reduce the chance of physical discomfort and injury it is important to make sure you are not straining to use any equipment such as laptops. If your chair doesn’t have a back support, try adding a firm pillow. If there is anything you need to support your comfort while working at home let your line manager know.
4. Access set up support with IT Services
Accessing the necessary files and equipment is crucial for any workspace set up. That’s why the IT Services working from home page has key information on working remotely. Speak to colleagues if you have any IT queries, they may have encountered similar issues.
5. Style your set-up
As well as being safe and secure, your workspace must allow you to feel at ease. Although distractions can’t always be avoided styling your workspace can help minimize the effects. Declutter and organise the space around you. Add something motivating such as a happy photo or favourite quote.
