Moving home and settling into a new country can feel daunting and it’s only natural to feel a bit anxious.
We want you to have a fantastic time at Leeds Beckett so here are a few ways you can easily meet new people and make friends when you arrive.
Join a society
We have many student societies including a variety for international students. You can go on nights out and make new friends at Karaoke, pub quizzes and other social events.
Join our gym
With a variety of fitness classes, you can take part in a host of keep-fit activities. You can book tennis courts, take part in team games or do a bit of yoga.
Visit our Sport and Active Lifestyles pages to see what you can get involved in!
Freshers Week
Every year, Leeds Beckett Students’ Union (LBSU) and their partners bring you the Official Leeds Beckett Freshers! You can expect nights out, fairs, social mixers, and more. Start the semester right by attending one of their famous Freshers Fairs. Fill your pockets with freebies, meet LBSU sports teams and sign up to a few societies. This year, LBSU is hosting two fairs at City Campus on 19 and 20 September, and one fair at Headingley Campus on 21 September.
Be a student ambassador
Many of our international students join the Global Ambassador scheme and find it’s a great way to meet friends and get involved with university events.
You could be helping guests at Open Days to working on call campaigns. The pay is competitive and can help you with living costs and study materials. Contact globalvillage@leedsbeckett.ac.uk if you’d like to get more information.
Make friends online
A great way to meet new people is to follow the Leeds Beckett Global Village on Facebook or Instagram and keep up to date with events while you are a student.
You can also join our Global Buddies scheme to be paired with a current student who will help you settle in to life in Leeds!
