Requesting information in how the university is managed

If you wish to request information relating to operational decisions and how public money is spent please complete our Freedom of Information Request form.

To support the efficient use of public funds we encourage you to check the publication scheme before making a request for information; we are not obliged to provide information already available through the publication scheme or our webpages.

Requests for your own personal information

To make a request for information about yourself held by Leeds Beckett University, please use our Right of Access Request Form.

In the event of other people (acting on your behalf) making a request for your personal information the university will try to obtain your consent or check that the third party is authorised to act on behalf by asking them to provide evidence of this entitlement. This might be a written authority to make the request or it might be a more general power of attorney.

Third party personal information requests

The university will consider disclosing personal information to investigating agencies or persons including the police, government departments, and local authorities; to protect an individual’s vital interests (significant risk to health), or in other limited circumstances  (one of which is for the prevention or detection of crime). All third parties will need to provide the university details of the legislation being relied upon for any disclosure along with appropriate approved documentation.

Requesting information captured by CCTV

A request for CCTV records is handled through the same processes for requesting other information. Requests by individual data subjects for images relating to themselves should be submitted to the university’s Information Compliance team together with proof of identification.

In order to locate the images on the university’s system, sufficient detail must be provided by the data subject to allow the relevant images to be located and the data subject to be identified.  Where the university is unable to prevent disclosure that identifies other data subjects it will be unable to comply with the request and this should be pursued by an investigating agency or persons including the police, government departments, and local authorities.

Handling of your request for information

The university will acknowledge your request and make a response in line with the 'Access to Information Policy' and in accordance with its standard operating procedures. The university will respond to all requests in a timely manner and reserves its rights to apply a charge as detailed in the Fees Notice.

Where the university does not intend to disclose information a refusal notice will be issued detailing the reasons for this decision and making reference to relevant legislation.
