Student Loan Repayments

Tuition Fee Loans are paid directly to your child’s chosen university. Maintenance Loans are paid to them in three instalments, close to the start of each term. Both loans are rolled into one for repayments.

They will start to make repayments on their loan once they earn a salary over £25,000, repaying 9% of any earnings over £25,000 per year. For example, if they earn £30,000 per year, they will pay back £37.50 per month. If their salary falls below £25,000, payments stop. Also, if they have not cleared their debt to the Student Loans Company within 30 years of graduating, their remaining debt is written off by the government.
