My research is about authenticity and inauthenticity at heritage sites using augmented reality technology. It is always enjoyable to delve further into the authenticity debate and fascinating to see how new technology is being used in the heritage context. My research idea is to see what visitors’ authenticity orientation and tolerance of inauthenticity is, and how this affects their experiences. Due to the restrictions to travel during the COVID-19 pandemic, I changed my onsite data collection approach to online. I have finished my data collection, which is yielding interesting findings. I am now focusing on analysis and writing up.
