Training and Development

Research Training Programme (RTP)

As a research student (except if you are studying for a Masters by Research or PhD by Published Works degree) it is a compulsory part of your degree to take part in our Research Training Programme and provide a record of your completed training.

Alongside The Graduate School's dedicated training and development team, your supervisor will support and guide you in your training.

We offer a series of workshops and seminars that will equip you with the skills needed to successfully complete your research degree and develop transferable skills for your future career.

The RTP can be viewed and booked by clicking on 'Calendar' on SAM. The Research Training Programme (VLE001098) module on MyBeckett also offers a range of online training resources.

The skills you need to develop are unique to you. To help identify your skills and those you would like to either improve or gain, you will need to complete a training needs analysis. The results will help you find the training or activities so you can fulfil your development aims.

Evidence of this, your training needs analysis, and reflections on your learning experiences combine to form your research training portfolio. Our research training policy gives more detail on this process.

Research support within the library offer a range of support for our postgraduate research students and staff, including tailored PhD student support and Skills for Learning, a collection of online resources to support the development of academic skills.

If you have a suggestion for a workshop, need support with your development plan or have any questions, please contact the training and development team: researcherdevelopment@leedsbeckett.ac.uk.
