Our charity expeditions offer a unique and exciting way for your supporters to raise funds for your chosen charity, leaving the organising and safety to us whilst you focus your time on raising important funds and working closely with the beneficiaries.

We have worked very successfully with a wide range of charities and disadvantaged groups delivering everything from big abseils to Himalayan expeditions. This experience has involved working closely with both organisations and participants to develop a bespoke expedition to fit the exact needs of the team.

For 10 years, we worked closely with the Royal British Legion and MoD to deliver the Battle Back Centre programme to thousands of wounded, injured and sick (WIS) service personnel/veterans and in 2018 we led a team to the Nepal Himalayas on a 4-week expedition trekking and mountaineering up to 6500metres. Those who took part were novices and the expedition was highly successful and an extremely positive experience for everyone involved.

Our school expeditions take the stress away from both the school and the parents/guardians by offering a highly professional, safe and positive experience for each young person ensuring they have a memorable and impactful experience with their friends, classmates and teachers.

Our leaders are professionals in the outdoors and expert at striking the right balance to ensure the best outcome. The team will be guided through all the necessary skills required to take part in the expedition. They will lead, support and mentor each young person whilst at the same time giving responsibility for tasks, helping them to grow their knowledge and confidence. Ultimately our aim is to inspire each young person to love the outdoors and adventure through taking part in a team expedition challenge and in doing so help them to broaden their knowledge, appreciate others and become more self-sufficient and resilient for the future.

Our veterans’ expeditions bring together likeminded people with shared past experiences ensuring a high level of trust and loyalty between expedition members and leaders as well as having a common sense of humour to make sure everyone has a great time together in an inspiring environment.

We are experts at working with the MoD and veterans, and several of our leaders are ex forces. We have unrivalled experience in organising and leading military adventurous training expeditions including to some of the world’s highest mountains. That experience has been significantly enhanced by more than a decade delivering the training programme at the Royal British Legions Battle Back Centre.

Past expeditions

Mera Peak Trekking and Climbing Expedition

In October and November 2018 our team led a 22-day trekking and climbing expedition in the Himalayas for the Royal British Legion; which involved a challenging circular trek and ascent of the significant Mera Peak at 6476 metres above sea level on Remembrance Sunday, marking the centenary of the end of the First World War. The view from the Mera Peak summit is one of the best in the Himalayas with a view of five of the world's six highest peaks. The team consisted of serving military wounded, injured and sick (WIS) personnel and veterans who took part in the expedition as part of their psychological and physical recovery. The expedition members were almost all novice mountaineers with little, or no expedition experience and we ran training preparation events in Scotland, North Wales and the Lake District which included physical preparation, technical mountain training and teambuilding.

Mera Peak is an ideal first Himalayan Peak for those with a good level of fitness and a keen sense of adventure. The mountain is a straightforward easy angled glacier ascent with a short steep rope length climb to gain the summit. This trek requires good teamwork and patience to overcome the obstacles involved which include an abseil and some sections of fixed ropes, all carefully safeguarded by the CGO team and our partner Sherpas.

Cotopaxi Mountaineering Expedition

In May and June 2014 our team led a mountaineering challenge in the Ecuadorian Andes for The Royal British Legion. The expedition aim was to climb five peaks culminating with the ascent of one of the world’s highest active volcanoes, Cotopaxi at 5,897 metres. The team who took part consisted of serving and new veteran soldiers, MPs from the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Mountaineering and representatives from the expedition key sponsors, Coventry Building Society.

The expedition was a demanding 18-day challenge of considerable difficulty operating at very high altitudes which tested the team to their limits. Whilst one of the peaks could not be attempted due to new snow depth and avalanche danger, the four remaining peaks saw success with team members on all summits including a very tough 10 hour ascent of the main objective of Cotopaxi. There was a great sense of camaraderie within the team and they worked superbly well together throughout the entire expedition experience. The main aim of the expedition was to raise awareness of The Royal British Legion’s Battle Back Centre at Lilleshall and the fantastic work that takes place there. In the process the team also raised over £7,000 in direct support of the Centre.

Everest Base Camp Expedition

In October 2009 our team led a 24-day expedition in the Himalayas. The team flew to Kathmandu where they undertook voluntary work with The Self-Help Group for Cerebral Palsy before completing a 16-day trek to the Everest Base Camp. The group continued to the summit of Kala Patthar which stands at 5,644 metres above sea level and from where Everest is visible.
