Course: BA (Hons) Social Work

Tell us a bit about yourself and what you’ve been doing since you graduated.

Since graduating, I have worked as a Social Worker in two educational establishments and I have worked as a Child Protection Social Worker for a Local Authority. My current role is Lead Social Worker / Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL’s) for an alternative provision and I manage a team of 7 DSL’s, two of whom are qualified Social Workers. I am a qualified Practice Educator and I have supported three students through their social work degree.

Tell us a bit more about your current role and why it’s amazing.

The purpose of the company who I work for is to give all children equal chances and choices for life. Their mission is to deliver brilliant teaching and exceptional support to every child in our schools, because they believe that children deserve better.

I believe that education is the key to change and their mission and values are in line with those of my own.

How did your course at Leeds Beckett help you get to where you are today?

The staff at the university were always on hand to provide help and support. The knowledge I gained whilst at university gave me the confidence to progress in my field of work.

What support or opportunities did you receive at Leeds Beckett that have helped shaped your career?

When I completed my degree, I was offered two roles and my tutor was on hand to discuss my options and help me make a decision.

Can you tell us about a project, piece of work or experience from university that you’re proud of?

I was the sole recipient within my cohort to be awarded the Anne Moseley Memorial Award. The award is presented to students who have demonstrated progression, dedication and resilience throughout their studies.

What would you say to someone considering studying your course?

I would recommend the course to anyone considering applying.
