Course: MSc Nutrition in Practice
What course did you study and what year did you graduate?
I studied Nutrition in Practice, and I graduated in 2020.
How are you feeling today?
I’m over the moon! I’ve waited two years for my graduation and finally it’s here.
Why did you choose Leeds Beckett to study?
Before I came here, I googled Leeds and found out it’s a vibrant city full of international students. There’s a lot of different cultures and I wanted to experience that. I also googled Leeds Beckett University and the ranking was really good, so I went for it.
Did you receive good support whilst studying here?
100 percent. At the beginning it was really hard for me because English is not my first language. But my tutors were really helpful and they were so understanding. They gave me all the support that I needed and kept pushing me forward, which meant a lot to me.
What has been the favourite part of your course?
Meeting new friends – we're still in touch now two years later. Also, the practical part of my course was really important for me, I gained a lot of skills from that.
My communication improved and it was literally like I was working, so it was so much easier when I then got a job after graduating.
Have there been any challenges you’ve overcome?
I wasn’t aware of the English culture and the accent was very difficult to begin with! But I soon Iearnt some new phrases like ‘Ta love’ and ‘Cheers’ which helped. Also, my friends were always really kind and warm to me.
What have you been doing since you completed your course?
I went back to my country, Egypt, and right now I’m working as a full-time nutritionist in a private clinic.
How did the university help you get that job?
Throughout my course, the university supported us with resources and I was able to have five months of work experience. Even after we graduated, the careers hub has been really helpful.
What advice would you give to someone studying your course?
Don’t stress too much! Just enjoy every single step and you will succeed.
