This summer saw the first Biomedical Science Summer School trip to China. Biomedical Science students across all year groups had the opportunity to travel to the Guizhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Guiyang, China. Thanks to a generous subsidy from the School of Health, students were able to learn the fundamentals of traditional Chinese medicine and explore the incredible landscape, culture, and medical techniques that China is known for.

During this two week trip, students delved into the theory and practical techniques surrounding alternative medicine. Through lectures, hands-on classes, and visits to hospitals and pharmaceutical enterprises, students gained insights into diagnostic methods and treatments such as acupuncture and moxibustion.

The Biomedical Science Summer School was a resounding success for all those involved. The new friendships, knowledge, skills, and memories formed during this trip will have a lasting impact on our students. This trip exemplifies Leeds Beckett University’s commitment to providing Biomedical Science students with unforgettable experiences.

Kamara Hamilton, a first year Biomedical Science student, said: “Summer school in Guiyang, China was an experience I never knew I needed! My eyes were opened wider than they have ever been opened in the past. That was all thanks to the rich culture, beautiful scenery, high standards of education and medical practices that have stood the test of time."

"This trip has fuelled my ambition to travel more and get involved in medical practice internationally."
