Animations & Interaction

The Leeds Beckett University website occasionally uses animations to page elements and animated gifs to add impact to pages. If you wish to stop them from playing for accessibility purposes or for personal preference then please see the guidance below. Please note that browsers sometimes change how they operate, so please refer to your browser help files to find their latest information.
How do I turn off animations?

Chrome

Chrome users will need to use browser extensions. Animation Policy from Google will help you set your own preferences.

Microsoft Edge

There is currently no way to disable animations within Microsoft Edge. Users of Edge (Chromium) browser can install the Chrome extensions above and use them.

Internet Explorer

To stop animations on a single page you can just press the 'Esc' key. This will stop the animation on that page. If you wish to restart the animations you need to refresh the page. To permanently disable the playing of animated GIF images, open Internet Options > Advanced tab. Under the Multimedia section, uncheck the Play animations in webpage check-box, click Apply and Exit and then restart your computer.

Firefox

Type about:config in Firefox address bar and hit Enter to open Settings. Search for the image.animation_mode flag and change its value from Normal to None. Once you restart Firefox this will disable animations.

Hot Chocolate Kit

Keeping it simple, this one is easy to do in one supermarket trip! All you need is some mini marshmallows (£1 is ample for this), a selection of hot chocolate sachets (4 for a £1 in most supermarkets) and a seasonal mug for £1 to £2 - keep it cheap and cheerful!

If you happen to have a few pennies left over throw in some biscuits!

If you’ve got more than a fiver to spend, why not make it a boozy hot chocolate by throwing in a mini bottle of Baileys?

Festive Film Kit

All Christmas films are fun to cringe through at this time of year, so why not pick up a bargain bucket festive flick for a couple of quid and build a festive night in kit around it?!

All you need is a brilliantly obscure and gloriously cheap Christmas DVD (available in all supermarkets or pound shops), and then to add some popcorn in sachets or bags, and arrange beautifully in a popcorn bag, bucket or bowl.

Spice It Up

Mulled Wine anyone? Yes, this is a do-able gift for under a fiver. Cheap bottle of red for £3, spice mix available pre-mixed in all good supermarkets at this time of year, and then a carton of basics orange juice. Or just buy a bottle of pre made mulled wine for around £3.50.

If you want to spend a little more on this why not get a wine glass and a personalise with a permanent marker?

Beer Glorious Beer

Simple but effective: beer. Get a four pack of beer and decorate the cans. Get creative! Stick some googley eyes on and some cotton wool for Santa, make an elf scarf, boots and ears out of felt or coloured card, or add some antlers with brown craft wire. This one is bound to be a hit.

Beard Baubles

Cheer that whole beard business up a bit, with some baubles. You can actually get beard specific baubles so they are just the right size and stay in place. Get them to wear them on a night out this Christmas for an extra laugh.
